IMOGEN BUTTIMORE

Cluttered

Video Game Project: Year 1, Semester 1.

Overview of the Project

For our game project, I was part of the group who created 'Cluttered'. Our aim was to create an instructional video game for 11-15 year olds. It also had to communicate the needs for energy efficiency and sufficiency in relation to 'Sustainable Goal 7'. Our game revolved around an astronaut who was abandoned on a space craft orbiting earth. The character had to collect space junk from outside the craft in order to be able to fix the spacecraft.

Logo Designs:

I created these logos with Canva and found inspiration by googling 'Video Game Logo Ideas.' This helped me see what types of fonts were being used in the gaming industry and how companies have designed their logos. I decided to include a graphic of a planet or earth as it reflects our plot of the game. I thought that it was important to include the name of the game too otherwise the audience may not know what our logo represents.

One of the other designers in my group then took one of my logos and added the chosen brand colours of #273c75 and #e1b12c and the dots around the planet to represent the space debris.

Advertisement Posters:

I made two advertisement posters for Cluttered that could be posted on sites such as Facebook or Twitter. For these posters, I used the brand colours throughout to stick with the theme. I included an image of the main character as this gives the audience an insight into the game without giving too much away. I also included a short sentnece of what the main aim of the game is so the audience understands what to do before purchasing. For research, I searched for 'video game posters' to find inspiration on how to design my posters. A common theme I found was that most video games included an action shot or image from the game which is why I also decided to include an image of our main character. I thought that it was important to include that it's a mobile game too otherwise our target audience wouldn't know what platform it is on.

Social Media:

This is a link to our instagram page, https://www.instagram.com/clutteredgame/ here you will be able to see everything that I have posted. For the first post I decided to post our logo to introduce the game to Instagram and let the audience know who we are. I then posted an image of our main character and introduced them to our audience. This lets the audience know who they will be playing in the game and will be able to see what they look like.

For the second post, I chose to post about how our game relates to the sustainable goal 7. I kept with the theme of our brand colours to make all posts look neat and tidy. I included the graphics around the post as this helps to give an insight into our game and makes our Instagram more space themed.

I decided to post about our unique selling point. This was good to post about because it shows how our game is different to other games for our chosen audience. It also shows how our game relates to the sustainable goal 7 and should attract a wider audience due to our game being more original.

When researching what to post on Instagram, I noticed that a lot of game companies include carousel instagram posts, so I decided to do this too. I created a carousel post for my post about the plot. I chose to post about this because it shows the audience what our game involves and will attract a bigger audience.
